Review: Monteverde Mulberry Noir

Blueberry stains on white paper! That’s how Mulberry Noir looks to me. If you have ever done an experiment in a science laboratory involving blue liquids of some kind, you’d find Mulberry Noir very familiar.

I detected more purple than blue in this ink – but it may vary if you are using different nib sizes – juicier blueberry color for broad nibs, and more blue for fine nibs.

As with the rest of the colors in the Monteverde Noir series, these are ink warriors. They soldier on day after day, without a word of complaint, and doesn’t try to steal the thunder by being so loud and prominent. It is just there, as intense as it should be, doing their thing. You flip back the pages to peek at them once in a while, they are still there – no tricks, no change in color. Sometimes you just need predictability in an everyday ink.

Close colors include the Sailor Shikiori Nioi-Sumire and the Sailor INK Studio No. 743. The latter 2 inks show a little more blue whilst being very close in color.

If you want the best of color intensity and drying time – you should know that Monteverde inks are lubricated to help prevent them from drying out in your pen.

What this means:
1. produces intense color but not pigmented
2. fast drying time!
3. good for EF and F nib users – we all know that inks dry out faster on your
skinny nibs than the Broads.

What the color reminds me of:

blueberry juice
a convent pinafore (uniform)
