Review: Monteverde Raven Noir

As the name suggests, Raven Noir is a consistent wash of black. It reminds me of the black Chinese ink used in paintings, there is no sheening and not a hint of blue or brownish-red was observed.

This is a decisive black, every stroke of writing shows of confidence.

Raven Noir makes a great everyday black, and as with most inks in the Monteverde Noir series, the staying power is amazing. Day 1 and Day 60 gives you the same consistent black.

I compared this against other black favourites – it surpasses the Pilot Black, and comes in quite close to Faber Castell Carbon Black, and Pilot Iroshizuku Takesumi. I also loaded this ink in my Y-Studio fountain pen, and the ink flow was amazing – none of the start-stop symptoms I sometimes have with drier inks on the Y-studio.

If you want the best of color intensity and drying time – you should know that Monteverde inks are lubricated to help prevent them from drying out in your pen.

What this means:
1. produces intense color but not pigmented
2. intense color but fast drying time!
3. good for EF and F nib users – we all know that inks dry out faster on your
skinny nibs than the Broads.
This is going to be my go-to black when I need a reliable everyday ink at everyday price points.
