ystudio Pens Singapore: The Complete Brand Guide (2026)
Some pens are made to disappear into a pocket. ystudio pens are made to be felt. Founded in Taiwan in 2012, ystudio believes that through words and writing, people can manage their thoughts — recognising in themselves who they are, and who they want to be. They build instruments from solid brass, copper and wood that carry real heft and honest materials, and that develop a unique patina the longer you use them.
The philosophy is called the weight of words. It is the opposite of disposability. Every piece is designed and made in Taiwan, in factories where the metal is shaped by furnace heat and finished by craftspeople with decades of experience. At Cityluxe, Singapore's authorised ystudio retailer, you can handle the full range at our Sims Drive WorkRoom — and have any piece precision-engraved on site.
Quick Verdict: Which ystudio Is Right for You?
Acrylic body with a brass core and smooth matte finish. The most accessible way into the brand's writing feel.
Compact, clip-on, and built to develop its own patina in your pocket. A pen that records you.
The 10-year milestone pen. Solid brass, smooth nib, serious presence — and it engraves beautifully.
Brand History: The Weight of Words
ystudio is a young brand with an old soul. In an age that prizes lightness and disposability, it went the other way — toward weight, permanence, and materials that age with grace.
Design Philosophy: Honest Materials, Honest Ageing
ystudio's whole worldview lives in the Brassing finish. A brass or copper barrel coated in matte black that wears precisely where your fingers fall, revealing warm metal beneath. The pen becomes a record of its owner — a slow, honest portrait drawn by use rather than design. It is the opposite of a screen that looks the same the day you retire it as the day you bought it.
The forms are deliberately quiet: hexagonal barrels that echo the humble pencil, clean cylinders, no logos demanding attention. What you notice is the weight — the unmistakable density of solid metal. Everything is designed and made in Taiwan, by craftspeople who have worked with brass for decades. As the brand says: "Absolutely honest and durable, just like the people who live in Taiwan."
Flagship: The Brassing Series
If ystudio has a single hero, it is the Brassing series. Black coating over solid brass that wears into a one-of-a-kind patina. The line covers every writing instrument type — fountain pen, rollerball, ballpoint, pencil — so a whole desk can age together.

The flagship Classic Revolve Fountain Pen — ystudio's 10-year milestone piece — comes in four deep lacquer colours over brass. Six fine lines reveal the metal beneath. Fine and Medium nibs; includes converter for bottled ink.

Resin & Glamour Series
Two series open ystudio to colour and lighter price points.
The Resin Series
"Reaching excellent balance in acrylic and brass. A smooth matte surface worthy of the weight of brass — with a brass inner tube embedded in the pen body for perfect weight balance." Available as fountain pen and rollerball in Black, Red and White.
Glamour Evolve — Bihex Rollerball
"Based on the classic hexagon design of YSTUDIO, scalene double hexagons result in 12 beautiful ridge lines." Body and cap are aluminium — light, vivid and convenient for carrying around. Schmidt 5888F refill.
Glamour Evolve · Ocean Sustainable
"Utilizing discarded fishing nets from Taiwan, it breathes life into its form. Themed around the ocean, five colours depict the mesmerising hues of the sea throughout a day." Made from recycled ocean-bound plastic. Five colours — Dawn Yellow, Sky Blue, Sunset Orange, Evening Purple, Sea Indigo. Schmidt 888F refill.

Classic Renaissance · Glass Paperweight (Dew Glow)

Enquire at the WorkRoom or contact us to be notified when these arrive.
Classic Renaissance — The Crafts Tier
"Classic Renaissance is the combination of YSTUDIO classic style and rare craftsmanship. This series expands the possibility of YSTUDIO and shows some one-of-a-kind masterpieces."
YAKIHAKU — Japanese Flat Foil Art
ystudio collaborates with Rakugei, a traditional foil art workshop in Japan. Mr. Murata applies yakihaku — a weaving technique originally used on Japanese kimono — to the pen barrel. The YAKIHAKU pen embodies Japanese classical aesthetics and traditional craftsmanship in ystudio's brand style. A true collector's piece.
Kazari Kanagu — Orchid
Kazari Kanagu (鎏, a traditional Japanese metal craft) is applied to copper sheet and inlaid on the pen body. ystudio uses the orchid — a flower symbolising elegance in Taiwan — as the design theme: vibrant arabesque texture, centuries of Japanese craftsmanship, and the weight of words.
Kazari Kanagu — Dragon
Created to commemorate the Year of the Dragon, this pen draws from the intricate "cloud and thunder pattern" found on traditional oriental bronzes. "As the dragon emerges, it bestows auspicious blessings and symbolises the eternal cycle of nature." 14K gold nib on the fountain pen version.
Nibs, Refills & Materials
Fountain pen nibs. All ystudio fountain pens use smooth stainless-steel nibs in Fine and Medium. Medium suits most everyday writing and signatures; Fine suits smaller handwriting or a drier, more precise line. They take standard international cartridges, and most models include a brass converter for bottled ink. The Classic Renaissance Dragon FP uses a 14K gold nib.
Rollerball refills. The Bihex uses a Schmidt 5888F (safety ceramic roller). The Classic Revolve Rollerball uses the same Schmidt refill. The Brassing Rollerball uses the ystudio gel refill.
Ballpoint refills. The spring-action ballpoints use a Parker-type refill; the portable ballpoints use the ystudio gel refill (black, SGD 9). Gel refills available separately.
Brass & patina care. The metal is designed to develop character. Leave it to age naturally — or buff gently with a metal polishing cloth to restore shine. On Brassing models, avoid harsh abrasives that strip the black coating faster than intended. Singapore's humidity accelerates patina; store in the box or a Classic Pen Case to slow it.
Laser Engraving — At the Sims Drive WorkRoom
Brass and copper are among the most rewarding materials to engrave — laser contrast on warm metal is crisp and deep, and it ages alongside the patina. We engrave ystudio pens in-house at the Cityluxe WorkRoom, 601 Sims Drive: names, initials, dates, short messages, or a company logo for corporate orders.
• Laser engraving — applicable to all Classic Revolve series + Ocean Sustainable pens
• Hotfoil stamping — applicable to the Resin series
• Tailored packages — wooden boxes, hardcover carton, custom backing sheets (all products)
• Individual — add engraving at checkout or bring your pen in. Corporate — logo, any font, bulk orders: request a corporate quote →
ystudio in Singapore: Why It Gifts So Well
ystudio sits in the sweet spot for Singapore corporate and milestone gifting: substantial enough to feel significant, distinctive enough to be remembered, and made in Taiwan with a story worth telling. It outclasses a generic corporate pen without tipping into intimidating price territory — and it engraves beautifully on brass.
For retirement or partnership milestone gifts, the Classic Revolve Fountain Pen (SGD 250) or a Kazari Kanagu Crafts piece makes a once-in-a-career statement. For event and team gifting, the Ocean Sustainable Rollerball (from SGD 57) offers a compelling sustainability narrative in five vivid colours — and takes a logo engraving cleanly.
