Pick up a Sheaffer pen and you will notice something most brands miss: a small white dot on the clip. That dot — placed there since 1920 — is not decoration. It is Sheaffer's century-old quality guarantee, a mark that says this pen has been made to a standard worth signing for. In over 100 years of manufacturing, Sheaffer has given the world the lever-fill mechanism, the Snorkel pen, the Triumph nib, and the inlaid nib — a series of genuine firsts that changed how fountain pens work. In Singapore, Sheaffer occupies a distinctive position: serious enough for boardroom gifting, accessible enough for a student's first fountain pen, and varied enough to satisfy a collector chasing a Limited Edition. Cityluxe is Singapore's authorised Sheaffer retailer, carrying the full range from the SGD 21 Sentinel to the SGD 344 Legacy inlaid nib fountain pen, plus inks, refills, accessories, and a professional engraving service. This guide covers every active Sheaffer series sold at Cityluxe — what each pen is made of, who it suits, and how to choose between them. If you are buying your first Sheaffer or your fifteenth, this is the reference you need.
Brand Heritage

Sheaffer: Over a Century of Writing Firsts

The story of Sheaffer begins not in a design studio but in a jewellery shop in Bloomfield, Iowa. Walter A. Sheaffer was a jeweller who grew tired of the cumbersome eyedropper-fill pens of the early 1900s and set about fixing them. His solution — a lever built into the barrel that squeezed a rubber sac to draw ink — was patented in 1908 and changed pen filling permanently. Where other brands produced incremental refinements, Sheaffer produced genuine category-defining inventions, one after another, for the better part of five decades.

Walter A. Sheaffer files his patent for the lever-fill mechanism — the first truly practical self-filling pen. A small lever on the barrel compresses a rubber ink sac; one squeeze fills the pen completely. Competing brands adopted the concept within years.

Sheaffer · the White Dot

The iconic White Dot appears on Sheaffer pen clips for the first time — a quality guarantee symbol. Sheaffer's warranty replaced a pen that failed; the White Dot told you, at a glance, that the warranty applied. Over a century later, every Sheaffer still wears the dot.

1942
The Triumph nib

Sheaffer Triumph nib

Sheaffer introduces the Triumph nib — a cone-shaped nib that merges the ink channel directly into the pen body. Smoother than conventional nibs, more durable under pressure. The Triumph nib defined Sheaffer's writing character for a generation.

1948
The Snorkel pen

The Snorkel pen launches — a retractable ink tube that extends below the nib for filling, so the nib itself never touches the ink. No wiping. No mess. An engineering marvel that remained in production for decades.

Industry Insight — 2022 to Today

The Modern Renaissance of the White Dot

Sheaffer is a brand with a complicated recent history. Under decades of conglomerate ownership — passing through BIC and then A.T. Cross — the brand suffered from fragmented distribution, a narrowing catalog, and the kind of institutional drift that happens when a heritage name becomes a line item in a corporate portfolio rather than a mission. Collectors noticed. The stationery community quietly wrote Sheaffer off as a brand that had lost its way.

Then in 2022, something remarkable happened. Nikhil Ranjan — founder, Managing Director, and CEO of William Penn, India's most respected premium writing instrument retailer — acquired Sheaffer outright. This was not a private equity play. Nikhil had spent twenty years as Sheaffer's exclusive distributor in India, building one of the most passionate pen retail businesses in Asia from his base in Bengaluru. He knew the brand from the inside. He knew what it could be. When the opportunity came to own it, he took it.

The transformation has been visible and rapid. Nikhil's team overhauled quality control, restored manufacturing precision to the core lines, and injected genuine creative ambition into the product roadmap. The results speak for themselves: the Coffee Edition VFM, the Expressions Gradient series, and the Emily in Paris collaboration are not the products of a dormant legacy brand. They are the output of a team that knows exactly where Sheaffer belongs in 2026 and is building aggressively toward it.

Some in the traditional Western pen community were initially surprised by the acquisition — a Bengaluru-based entrepreneur taking ownership of an Iowa-born American icon. We were not surprised. We were convinced. When Sheaffer approached Cityluxe to become their authorized Singapore retailer, it was precisely this management team's vision and track record that made the decision straightforward. The product development pipeline backs it up. When you buy a 2025 or 2026 Sheaffer, you are buying a heritage brand operating at its modern best.

Design Language

Sheaffer Design Philosophy: The White Dot & the Inlaid Nib

Sheaffer's visual identity is built around two things: the White Dot on the clip and the inlaid nib on the finest fountain pens. The White Dot is a quality mark — it tells you that this pen was made by a company that backs its work. The inlaid nib is a technical statement: the nib sits flush with the barrel section, creating a continuous writing surface that is smoother and harder-wearing than a conventional nib that protrudes above the section. Beyond those signatures, Sheaffer pens follow a consistent design grammar: clean cap lines, a tapered body that sits comfortably in the hand, and trim hardware in chrome, gold, or PVD finishes that coordinates rather than competes with the barrel colour. Where Parker pens are defined by the Arrow clip, Sheaffer pens are defined by restraint — the White Dot is enough of a statement that the rest of the pen does not need to shout.

Sheaffer Design Signatures

  • White Dot on clip — quality guarantee since 1920
  • Inlaid nib on Legacy — flush, frictionless writing surface
  • CT (Chrome Trim) and GT (Gold Trim) finish families
  • PVD tone-on-tone finishes — body and trim in matching metal
  • Heart-shaped and bow-shaped clip emblems on Emily in Paris editions

Materials by Series

  • Sentinel: ABS plastic (standard) / brass metal (Metal editions)
  • VFM: Lacquered metal over brass barrel
  • 100 Series: Lacquered brass, PVD-plated brass
  • 300 Series: Lacquered brass, heavier wall construction
  • SAGARIS: Solid brass, large-diameter format
  • Legacy: Resin and lacquered brass, inlaid nib
Sheaffer's nib range covers Fine, Medium, and (on some models) Broad. The inlaid nib of the Legacy writes with a distinctly Sheaffer character — generous ink flow, low feedback, and a writing arc that follows the barrel's taper. Fountain pen writers who try an inlaid nib rarely want to go back to a conventional nib of the same price.
Singapore context: Sheaffer's PVD finishes — the Satin Blue, Coffee Brown, and PVD Gold editions — hold up exceptionally well in Singapore's humidity. PVD coating is harder than standard lacquer and does not yellow or cloud over time the way some lacquer finishes do in tropical conditions.

Entry Level

Sheaffer Sentinel — Singapore's Everyday Ballpoint

The Sentinel is Sheaffer's entry-level retractable ballpoint — a lightweight, clip-in-pocket pen designed for people who want reliable writing without thinking about it. The standard Sentinel uses an ABS plastic barrel with a push-button retract mechanism, chrome trims, and the White Dot on the clip. At SGD 21, it is the most affordable way to carry a Sheaffer. The Sentinel Metal range steps up to a brass barrel with a lacquer finish, available in both Chrome Trim (CT) and Gold Trim (GT) variants. The 330–332 models use chrome trims (SGD 24); the 333–335 models pair the same barrel finishes with gold trims at SGD 32. All Sentinel models accept the standard T-style ballpoint refill.

Sheaffer VFM — Value For Money, Seriously

The VFM name is Sheaffer's promise: value for money. And it delivers — a full metal barrel, available as fountain pen, ballpoint, and rollerball in the same design family, at prices that sit comfortably below SGD 70. The VFM fountain pen accepts Sheaffer's universal ink cartridges or a piston converter for bottled ink, making it a genuine entry point into fountain pen writing at a sensible price. The VFM range covers over ten colourways, from the workday Matte Black to the statement Excessive Red, the chromework of Polished Chrome, and the premium Coffee Edition with PVD regal brown trims. Most VFM models are engraveable, making them a popular choice for personalised corporate gifts.

VFM Gift Sets

The VFM Matte Black is available in gift set configurations with an A6 notebook — ideal for a practical desk gift:

From the WorkRoom — Christine Joy

"A procurement manager from Demant came in with a clear brief: a specific budget, a firm deadline, and 170 sets to be delivered to Kuala Lumpur."

We recommended the VFM Matte Black Rollerball + A6 Notebook Gift Set. The reasoning was straightforward: the VFM sits at a price point that scales without feeling budget, the matte black finish is professionally neutral across any industry, and the A6 notebook makes the set genuinely useful rather than decorative. A pen and a notebook is something people keep on their desk. A pen alone often ends up in a drawer.

170 sets, cross-border to KL, on time. That brief is not unusual for the VFM — it is exactly what this pen was built for. If you have a similar requirement, our corporate gifting team handles volume orders with engraving and regional delivery. There is also an unboxing video of this exact set on our gifting page.

Mid-Range

Sheaffer 100 — Premium Value at SGD 54–151

The Sheaffer 100 is where the brand's design language becomes unmistakably premium. Lacquered brass barrels, polished section rings, and a choice of chrome, gold, or PVD tone-on-tone trims. At SGD 54–151 it competes directly against the LAMY Safari step-ups and the lower Pelikan range — and typically wins on finish quality at the equivalent price point. The 100 is Cityluxe's bestselling Sheaffer series overall. The E9338 Glossy Black Lacquer is the single most-requested model — deep in stock, reliably in gift boxes, and the pen many people picture when someone says "Sheaffer fountain pen."

Who the 100 suits: Daily writers, professionals upgrading from a budget pen, and gift buyers with a SGD 80–150 budget. The 100 sits in the sweet spot where finish quality is clearly premium but the pen is not precious — you carry it without worry.

Professional

Sheaffer 300 — Professional Presence, SGD 67–134

The Sheaffer 300 is slightly heavier and bolder than the 100 — same pen family, stepped-up gravitas. Where the 100 is the pen you carry in your jacket pocket, the 300 is the pen that sits on the conference table. The barrel is a bit wider, the wall a bit thicker, and the whole pen rests differently in the hand: authoritative without being ostentatious. The 2025 addition of the E9347 Engraved Black — with a machine-engraved pattern on the barrel — fills a gap in the range: a 300-level pen with visual texture that justifies the premium over a glossy or matte finish.

Premium Business

Sheaffer SAGARIS — Senior Executive, SGD 112–152

The SAGARIS is Sheaffer's premium business pen — larger diameter, heavier in hand, and designed to project authority. Named after the ancient battle axe (fitting, for a pen that sits at the top of the professional range before the collector-grade Legacy), the SAGARIS pairs glossy black lacquer with bold gold-tone trims in two body configurations.

The Inlaid Nib — Sheaffer's Signature Engineering

The SAGARIS fountain pen features Sheaffer's inlaid nib — a structural design where the steel writing tip is fused directly into the resin of the grip section rather than mounted as a separate unit. This creates an unusually rigid, consistent writing platform with no gap between nib and section, eliminating the flex and potential leak points of a conventional modular nib. If this is your introduction to the inlaid nib, the SAGARIS is where the architecture makes its first statement. The Legacy carries the same design in 18K gold.

Sheaffer Legacy — The Inlaid Nib, from SGD 184

The Legacy is Sheaffer's most important pen. It carries the inlaid nib — Sheaffer's greatest technical invention — in a hand-polished glossy black lacquer body with chrome-plated trims and, of course, the White Dot. The fountain pen is the definitive model: the inlaid nib has been part of Sheaffer's repertoire since the 1959 PFM and nothing quite replaces the sensation of writing with it.

The Inlaid Nib — What Makes It Different

A conventional fountain pen nib is stamped from sheet metal and snapped or screwed into a separate plastic section. Sheaffer's inlaid nib is structurally different: the writing tip is fused directly into the resin of the grip section itself, flush with the surface. There is no visible nib housing, no separate unit, no gap between metal and plastic. The nib is the section.

This architecture creates a uniquely rigid writing platform. Because the nib cannot flex relative to its housing, each stroke is delivered at an absolutely consistent angle. The result is a writing feel that is simultaneously smoother and more controlled than most modular-nib designs — and it eliminates the section leaking that can occur when a standard nib unit works loose over time.

On the Legacy 9064, the inlaid nib is 18K gold — house-ground, hand-finished, and unlike anything else at this price point. At SGD 344 it is not a casual purchase. It is a considered one, and it rewards that consideration every time you write with it.

At SGD 344 for the fountain pen, the Legacy competes against the Pelikan M400, the LAMY 2000, and the lower Parker Duofold range. Of those, only the Sheaffer has the inlaid nib — a writing experience that is technically and tactilely unlike any of its competitors.

Special Edition

Emily in Paris Collection — Sheaffer × Netflix

Sheaffer's collaboration with the Netflix series brings Parisian flair to three pen lines — the Sentinel, the 100, and the compact Prelude Mini — each carrying a bow- or heart-shaped clip emblem. The collection launched in March 2026 and is selling fast. The Prelude Mini includes a Swarovski Crystal detail — a first for Sheaffer in Singapore.
Special Edition

Coffee Collection — Matt Brown PVD Across Two Series

The Coffee Collection runs across the VFM and 100 series — a matt brown barrel with regal brown PVD-plated trims, a finish that reads as warm, contemporary luxury. Released in two phases (VFM in August 2024, 100 in November 2024), the collection is designed to coordinate: buy the VFM as a daily pen and the 100 as the desk piece, and they look intentional together.
Complete the Coffee set: The Sheaffer Coffee-Scented Brown Ink (SGD 16) was developed to pair with this collection — and it is not a gimmick. It has a genuine, sweet coffee fragrance that becomes noticeable as the ink dries on the page.

From the WorkRoom — Christine Joy

"The Coffee Edition is Sheaffer's best-selling release since William Penn took over the brand. And I will tell you exactly why it sells the way it does."

When a customer comes into the WorkRoom and asks about the Coffee Edition, we fill one of the fountain pens with the coffee-scented ink and let them write with it. Then we tell them to hold it close. The moment they smell it — warm, sweet, unmistakably coffee — you watch their expression change. It happens almost every time.

Most of them are new to fountain pens. They came in expecting a pen. They did not expect to smell espresso on the nib. That surprise is genuinely delightful, and it converts. The Coffee Edition is the one Sheaffer release where we almost never have to explain why someone should buy it — the pen and ink do the selling themselves.

Sheaffer inks are consistently underrated. They write well, the colours are rich, and the coffee-scented variant is proof that the William Penn team is thinking creatively about what a pen experience can be. If you are new to fountain pen inks, the Coffee-Scented Brown is one of the most joyful places to start.

Sheaffer Inks, Cartridges & Refills — Complete Guide

Sheaffer uses a proprietary cartridge system — their long, narrow ink cartridges are not interchangeable with the international standard used by LAMY, Pilot, and most other brands. Always use Sheaffer-branded cartridges or the Sheaffer piston converter for bottled ink.

Fountain Pen Ink System

Important: Most Sheaffer fountain pens — the 100, 300, Sentinel FP, Sagaris, Legacy, and Prelude — use Sheaffer's proprietary long cartridge format. Standard international cartridges will not fit. The VFM is the one exception: it accepts standard short international cartridges, but its slim barrel cannot accommodate a converter — it is cartridge-only. Always check which refill system your model uses before purchasing ink accessories.

Singapore Advice

Singapore-Specific Tips for Sheaffer Pen Owners

Tropical Climate Care

Singapore's humidity (70–85% year-round) is generally pen-friendly — ink dries slower than in dry climates, reducing clogging. However, avoid leaving a capped pen in direct sun (e.g. a car dashboard) as heat can cause ink expansion and seepage. Store your pen horizontally or nib-up when not in use for extended periods. For long storage (over two weeks without use), flush the pen clean with water, dry it, and store empty.

Paper Recommendations in Singapore

The VFM and 100 nibs write at medium wetness — standard office copy paper will feather. For the best experience, use 80gsm+ fountain pen paper. In Singapore, the most accessible options are MD Paper, Iroful, and Leuchtturm1917 notebooks — all available at Cityluxe. The Legacy inlaid nib is a very wet writer — premium paper (90gsm+) is strongly recommended.

Corporate Gifting in Singapore with Sheaffer

Sheaffer occupies a strong position in Singapore's corporate gifting market — recognisable brand, premium feel, available across a wide price range. Recommended tiers for corporate orders:
SGD 21–40: Sentinel or VFM Matte Black BP — event giveaways, team gifts, conference items
SGD 70–110: 300 Glossy Black BP or 300 Matte Black BP — executive client gifts, board welcome packs

FAQ

Sheaffer Pens Singapore — Frequently Asked Questions

What does the White Dot on a Sheaffer pen mean?
The White Dot is Sheaffer's quality mark, placed on every pen clip since 1920. It originated as a guarantee symbol — Sheaffer would replace any pen marked with the White Dot if it failed. Today it functions as the brand's most recognisable identity element: a small white circle on the clip that signals to pen users worldwide that they are holding a genuine Sheaffer. Every model from the SGD 21 Sentinel to the SGD 344 Legacy carries it.
What is the Sheaffer inlaid nib and which pens have it?
The inlaid nib is Sheaffer's greatest technical invention — rather than a separate nib unit that protrudes from the section, the inlaid nib sits flush within the barrel body, creating a seamless writing surface. The result is a uniquely smooth, wet writing feel unlike any conventional nib. In the current Singapore lineup, only the Legacy 9064 Fountain Pen (SGD 344) features the inlaid nib. It is available in Fine and Medium.
Which Sheaffer is best for a first fountain pen?
The VFM Matte Black Fountain Pen (SGD 40) is the most recommended first Sheaffer fountain pen. It is lightweight, takes standard Sheaffer cartridges that are easy to swap, and the steel nib delivers a smooth, wet flow from the first stroke. Available in Fine and Medium. When ready to step up to bottled ink, add the Sheaffer piston converter (SGD 11.20).
Are Sheaffer ink cartridges compatible with other brands?
No. Sheaffer uses a proprietary long cartridge design that is NOT compatible with international standard cartridges used by brands like LAMY, Pilot, or Waterman. Always use Sheaffer ink cartridges (SGD 7.20 for 5-pack) or the Sheaffer piston converter (SGD 11.20) for bottled ink. Forcing a wrong-size cartridge can damage the feed and void the warranty.
What is the difference between the Sheaffer 100 and 300 series?
Both use lacquered brass construction and the same cartridge/converter filling system. The key differences: the 100 Series is slimmer and lighter; the 300 Series is slightly heavier and broader in the barrel. In the hand, the 300 reads as "more substantial" — it tends to be chosen for client-facing and gifting purposes where the first impression matters. Both series have chrome and gold trim options. The 300 runs roughly SGD 5–15 more per model.
Can I get a Sheaffer pen engraved in Singapore?
Yes. Cityluxe offers laser engraving on selected Sheaffer models including the Sentinel, VFM (selected), SAGARIS, and Legacy. For individual orders: add engraving at checkout when shopping online. For corporate orders with logos or large volumes, contact our corporate gifting team. Turnaround is typically 2–3 business days for individual orders.
Which Sheaffer is best for corporate gifting in Singapore?
It depends on your budget. For SGD 70–110: the 300 Series Ballpoint is well-regarded in Singapore corporate circles — it presents well, holds up to daily use, and is clearly premium. For SGD 130–140: the 300 E9347 Gift Set with Credit Card Holder (SGD 132) or the SAGARIS Ballpoint (SGD 112). For board or milestone level: the Legacy Fountain Pen (SGD 344). Contact the corporate gifting team for volume discounts.
What Sheaffer refill fits the SAGARIS or Legacy ballpoint?
The SAGARIS and Legacy ballpoints use the Sheaffer T-Style refill (SGD 9.10–9.20), available in Black Fine and Black Medium. Note: this is different from the K-Style refill used by the Sentinel, VFM, 100, and 300 series. Check the refill package to confirm "T-Style" before purchasing. When in doubt, bring the pen cap to Cityluxe — our staff can match the correct refill on the spot.
Is the Emily in Paris Sheaffer collection limited edition?
Yes. The Emily in Paris collection is a special limited edition released in March 2026. It spans three Sheaffer lines — Sentinel, 100, and the Prelude Mini — and includes a compact journal and gift sets. Once Sheaffer's allocation is sold through, these models will not be restocked. Current Cityluxe inventory: all models in stock as of this writing; the 100 RB is the fastest-moving piece.
How do I clean a Sheaffer fountain pen?
1. Remove the cartridge or empty the converter. 2. Fill the converter with cool water, attach to the pen, and flush through the nib until the water runs clear. 3. Repeat 2–3 times if changing ink colours. 4. Gently shake to remove excess water. 5. Leave nib-down on a paper towel to air-dry for at least 12 hours before re-inking. For stubborn ink residue, soak the nib/section (not the barrel) in cool water for up to an hour. Never use hot water or soap on Sheaffer fountain pens — it can damage the nib tipping.
