Vinta Inks Vintage Collection - Set of 3
The Vinta Vintage Collection takes inspiration from the “Dekada 70s,” or the Philippines during the 70s. This is a very interesting period in Philippine history where we have the convergence of greater political resistance from students as well as the rise of pop culture. At the same time that there is a growing resistance against the Marcos regime, there is also fourishing of art and culture. It is this special moment that we pay homage to in this collection.
Blaze 1970 [Silab]
Blaze 1970, or Silab, is a vibrant red-orange ink that honors the "First Quarter Storm," one of the earliest student-led protests against President Marcos' administration. This bold orange hue symbolizes the inner strength we all have to stand up against injustice and demand accountability.
Silab is an uplifting, cheerful ink that always brings a sense of joy when see it on paper. It’s richly saturated with a smooth, consistent flow. However, it works perfectly for marking important points in notes or journal. Compared to Terracotta [Damili 1572], a Vinta orange ink from the Heritage Collection, Silab is brighter with a stronger presence of yellow and red tones.
Pilgrim's Blue 1970 [Peregrino]
Peregrino, a lovely light blue ink, marks the historic Papal visit to the Philippines in November 1970, when Pope Paul VI, also known as the "Pilgrim Pope," came to the country. This ink honors the enduring Catholic faith of the Filipino people and evokes the image of the brave nuns who stood against the military during People Power I, dressed in their iconic habits.
Peregrino is a moderately saturated light blue with a smooth, consistent flow and dries quicker than Silab. While it shows some subtle shading, it lacks any sheen. Compared to Deepwater Blue [Lucia 1952] from Vinta’s Carnival Collection, Peregrino is darker and more vibrant.
Pink Rose 1973 [Binibini]
Binibini, a soft and muted dusky pink ink, honors a beauty queen and holds a special place in my heart, as 1973 is also my birth year. That year, Margie Moran of the Philippines won the Miss Universe title in Athens, Greece, becoming the second of four Filipinas to take home the crown. Beauty pageants are a significant part of Filipino culture, bringing immense pride and joy to the nation.
Like Peregrino, Binibini is moderately saturated. It appears lighter when wet, then settles into a darker, more muted pink with lovely shading as it dries. this pink perfect for note taking and journaling. Compared to Pastel Pink [Julia 1991] from Vinta’s Carnival Collection, Binibini is a deeper, more intense shade.
