Parker Jotter Pen Review (2021)

Parker pens have been a timeless and classic writing tool that have been popular since its inception. You’ll be hard pressed trying to find a pen enthusiasts who isn’t familiar with the Parker name.

HISTORY OF PARKER

In today’s blog post, we’ll be talking specifically about the Parker Jotter but before we do just that, let’s take a quick trip back in time to explore Parker’s extensive history!

Parker has produced reliable writing tools consistently, echoing George Safford Parker’s driving philosophy: ‘It will always be possible to make a better pen.’

These pens include the Duofold, which was able to remain crack-proof even after being dropped from an airplane or to the bottom of the Grand Canyon due to its durable new plastic material and the Parker Jotter, which has been capturing the hearts of users since its debut. It’s even the choice pen of one very famous fictional US Marshal. Can you guess who? Hint: He’s played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Did you guess it? The character in question is actually Edward ‘Teddy’ Daniels, protagonist of the Martin Scorsese hit, Shutter Island. Set in 1954, the film coincides with the real world event of the release of the very first ballpoint pen, the Parker Jotter!

PARKER JOTTER REVIEW

A classic Parker Jotter is simple in design, with Parker’s signature arrow clip and ‘click’ sound.

What makes a Parker Jotter special is its two-ball design which reduces friction during writing and allows for a smooth and enjoyable experience. The Jotter series comes not just with a ballpoint option but a fountain pen and roller ball too. If you’re unfamiliar with fountain pens, do read up our blog post all about it.

The Parker Jotter is smooth to touch and the metal finishing gives it the feeling that it  is heavy. Contrary to that, the Jotter is a decent weight, more light than heavy. Personally I dislike heavy pens as I write a lot and my hands do feel painful after a while. I like that the Jotter won’t tire my hand out after a long journal day.

In comparison to a regular ballpoint pen, the Jotter is also somewhat more environmentally friendly. Instead of throwing out a piece of plastic every few weeks and having to buy a new pen, you can get yourself a new ink refill for your Jotter that is sure to last longer. This not only help saves the environment, it also saves your pocket too.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Even after 67 years, the Parker Jotter still manages to win over pen users with its smooth writing and stylish design. Is the Parker Jotter a good pen for daily use? Certainly! Not only that, it makes for a nice gift to a loved one too.

What was your very first Parker Pen and do you still use it now? Also, what are your own thoughts about the Parker Jotter? Let me know in the comments!
