Review: Monteverde Copper Noir
I get nervous with copper colours – usually because I don’t know what to expect. Some turn out brown, some orange, some red like terracotta.
Monteverde Copper Noir gave a reassuring wash on the paper. For me, it fit my impression of copper colour, and didn’t change to become red or brown or orange. The colour distribution is even, intense and confident enough.
If the ‘Quick Brown Fox’ jumping over the fence had a colour, this would be it. (compare with Diamine Terracotta and Mont Blanc Petit Prince Red Fox).
If Monteverde is trying to make every ink in the Noir series an everyday option, they are succeeding quite well.
I prefer not to settle for blacks and blues because my ten thousand rollerballs and gel pens and ballpoints can do that. So I am always on the lookout for colors that offer stability for an everyday write.
All in all, a reliable everyday ink at everyday price points.
What the color reminds me of:
- thick bushy fox tail in fairy tales
- the hair color on The Jetsons cartoons
- Check out these inks for comparison:
- Mont Blanc Red Fox (Petit Prince series)
- Kyo-iro Higashiyama
What I used:
Pen: Kaweco Sport, Broad Nib
Paper: Muji notecard, Bestform notecards
Monteverde inks are lubricated to help prevent them from drying out in your pen. What this means: 1. produces intense color 2. fast drying time 3. good for EF and F nib users – we all know that inks dry out faster on your skinny nibs than the Broads. 😉
