Unboxing Onishi Seisakusho Handmade Fountain Pens

Collecting fountain pens is an addictive hobby. From the first moment you open a box and see the gleaming writing instrument inside, to the first time you use one to write a letter or note, you'll know that it is unlike any other hobby. Manual writing with a fountain pen reminds us of simpler times, when people sat down and wrote letters to each other — something that seems almost lost in today's fast-paced world. Not everything goes out of style, though. The Onishi Seisakusho cellulose acetate fountain pen, like its predecessors of generations past, is a reliable fountain pen brand built to last a lifetime.

The Onishi Seisakusho fountain pens are finished by hand, one at a time, by Kiyoshi Kato—a master pen crafter nicknamed "the father of pens." Kato's pens are truly a work of art because they are all handmade, and each one reflects his skill, artistry, and attention to detail. After he passed away in 2010, his apprentice Keizi Onishi took over the business and preserved his mentor's legacy by continuing to make handmade fountain pens.

Check out the video below to see how these pens are made.

Seisakusho fountain pens, each with its own distinctive style, had a variety of materials, including celluloid, cellulose acetate, and acrylic resin. Celluloid fountain pens were among the first to be manufactured and used in Japan but due to the end of production, they now use cellulose acetate as a replacement for it.

Here are some reasons why we love this pen:

  • 1.) A unique and elegant pen, the irregularities of its design give it an artistic flair.
  • 2.) Writes in a smooth and pleasant manner
  • 3.) Handmade pens made by master pen craftsmen in Japan
